Ask one question first: does the file leave my device? If the answer is yes, everything else — the privacy policy, the retention window, the certifications — is a promise rather than a guarantee.
Client-side tools sidestep that entirely. The document is opened by your browser, modified in memory, and written back to your downloads folder.
Look for a clear statement about processing location, HTTPS everywhere, and no forced account creation for basic operations.
